High Anxiety
At my core I am a nature photographer. In this year of 2020 with the isolation and deaths of Covid-19, the environmental crisis, racial injustice and political turmoil I cannot be content to be a nature photographer producing calm beautiful abstracts with nature as the theme. I do not feel calm! I am anxious! I’m angry! I’m scared! I worry about our country’s future. I search for a bit of hope. My photography must change to fit this time. The well-known phrase from Monty Python runs through my head. “And now for something completely different.” The photographs in this series are for me something different. They begin with my core nature photographs of rock, water, and sky and become abstracts of bold color expressing my state of mind of High Anxiety.
